Is Your Job Hunting Technique Stuck In the 1920s?

In the 1920s, newspapers were the number one way for employers to advertise jobs.  Things have moved on since then, with job boards prevalent with the advent of the internet in the 1990s, to today’s social media recruiting.  Does this mean you should stop looking in the newspaper and get social to find your next step on the career ladder?

I think this infographic from Atenta.de via www.vizworld.com shows how recruitment has changed over the years really well.

Essential Personnel is investing a lot of time and effort into sourcing high quality candidates through social media, so it is super important that you have up to date, compelling social media profiles.  But should you stop buying the newspaper and using the job boards?

I recently spotted a big window sticker in a home improvement store advertising for their next team member, which harks back to the 1860’s according to this infographic.  Every week I see over 100 jobs advertised in my local newspaper on their ‘jobs day’, proving that 1920’s methods are still the norm for some employers.  One of the major jobs boards has 30,000 jobs advertised within a 10 mile radius of my home, how very 1990’s.

So when job hunting, keep your options open and use all types of job hunting techniques, even if they are over 100 years old.
